Brogan’s turn on power for double delight

BATTLING St. Brogan’s, Bandon triumphed on the double at Kilmurry yesterday, retaining their Cork Co Vocational Schools S’A’HC title and booking a place in the Munster final against Tipperary opponents in the process.

But it took a spirited second-half performance to do so. Sloppy and wasteful in an opening half, in which Coachford College made better use of their chances, the Bandon boys hurled with much more fire after the break and with Joseph Harrington and Ronan Crowley controlling the middle of the park, there was never a doubt about the outcome once Gary Farrell scored a morale boosting goal in the 36th minute.

Some nice hurling in the Kilmurry sunshine and it took Coachford just two minutes to breech a slow starting St. Brogan’s rearguard when Dara Ring lobbed goalkeeper Graham Courtney for a fine goal. And with Paul Twomey and Aidan Deasy in control in a tight and solid defence they went on to lead 1-3 to 0-2 after the opening quarter.
