Situation in Cork ‘sad’, says Mulvey

THE Chief Executive of the Labour Relations Commission (LRC) has called “for wise counsel to prevail on all sides” in the latest dispute to have rocked Cork GAA.

The Rebels’s senior hurlers continue to refuse to play under Gerald McCarthy in a row over the process used to re-appoint the manager.

Last night Kieran Mulvey, who helped broker an agreement earlier in the year between players and the Board, expressed his dismay at the latest split on Leeside.

“I think the situation is very sad. It is extremely sad that this situation has arisen again and we are almost back to square one,” Mr Mulvey said. “I do feel that it is time for wise counsel to prevail on all sides but the solution to this lies within the Cork GAA community itself.

“I am watching what is happening and I am listening to what is happening, my own view at the moment is that it would be better if the parties involved met together before there would be an external involvement.”
