Last week’s draw was an incredible affair in terrible conditions with Abbeyside coming from nine points down to almost snatch victory and a place in the decider against De La Salle.
But the champions are no strangers to replays having required two attempts to see off Lismore by a point. Abbeyside are sweating on the fitness of captain John Foley with John Phelan on standby to replace him.
That concern coupled with long-term injury victims John Kindregan and Shane Briggs may prove a major blow to Abbeyside’s bid for a first senior title. Ballyduff had concerns over their captain, county star Stephen Molumphy, however he’s set to start.
Ballyduff remain marginal favourites but Abbeyside wouldn’t lack for confidence given their staggering fightback on a day when they hit 17 wides. If they can sharpen up in attack they just might shade the tie. Extra time will be played if required.
Meanwhile Stradbally are favourites against St Saviours in the first of the Waterford SFC quarter-finals at Kill today (1.30pm) while Kilrossanty face John Mitchels in a derby to decide who drops down to intermediate (Walsh Park, 3pm). With John Mitchels formed after a major split within the Kilrossanty club expect a tense affair.
