Aisake’s future uncertain after release by Carlton

AISAKE Ó hAILPÍN has been delisted from his AFL club Carlton.

The Cork man was recruited in the 2005 rookie draft and has played three seasons with the Blues. Despite having been elevated to the club’s seniors in 2007, the 23-year-old failed to play a senior game.

Carlton announced their list changes yesterday. Operations manager Steven Icke said: “We sincerely thank the players for the commitment they have given to the Carlton club during their careers and we wish them well going forward.”

Last week Icke confirmed that there hadn’t been any interest in the younger of the Ó hAilpín brothers during trade week but he could attempt to continue his career by nominating for the pre-season draft.

The pre-season draft happens after the main AFL draft and is for players who are out of contract but looking to continue their AFL career.

The club didn’t reveal whether Aisake wishes to continue his AFL career with another club. It comes days after older brother Setanta was considered for trade to other clubs.

However, without sufficient interest, he remains on the Blues books for another year. If the club were to release him he too could nominate for the pre-season draft.

It remains to be seen whether Aisake will opt for the draft option or will return home to Cork and Na Piarsaigh.
