THE question of whether inter-county players will receive state funding in the future because of the current economic climate is entirely a matter for the Government, GAA President Nickey Brennan insisted yesterday.

While expressing the hope that the Association itself will continue to be supported by the Sports Council, he said that at the same time they were living in the “real world”.

However, he pointed out that they “take a very clear line” on the grant scheme that is due to kick in shortly for the first time after years of campaigning by the GPA.
