Kevin McMahon comes in for the suspended Donncha O’Connor and will play at left half forward, a position Sean O’Brien occupied last Sunday. The Nemo man crosses over to right half forward.
In defence, Ger Spillane reverts to centre-back, with John Miskella switched to right half. Team captain Graham Canty will partner Alan O’Connor at midfield.
Irrespective of whether Donncha O’Connor has his suspension lifted or not, the team named is unlikely to the one which will start on Sunday.
Meanwhile, there are two changes on the Kerry minor team for Saturday’s All-Ireland semi-final replay against Mayo in Limerick.
Peter Crowley loses out to Colm Moriarty, while Jamie O’Donoghue comes in for Barry John Keane.
Moriarty, who takes over the captaincy of the team, will partner Wayne Guthrie at midfield, while Jamie O’Sullivan moves back to centre back with Jonathan Lyne taking over from Crowley at right half back.
In attack, O’Donoghue who made a big impression when introduced in the drawn game, will line out at right corner-forward.
Meath have given a vote of confidence to the team which defeated Tipperary in the quarter-final for Sunday’s All-Ireland MFC semi-final clash with Tyrone in Croke Park (12.15 pm).
William Carry, who played in the Leinster final but was ruled out of the All-Ireland quarter-final against Tipp because of injury, is not fully fit and wasn’t considered.
This will be the third meeting of the two counties at this stage of the championship. In 1972 a Tyrone side which included Frank McGuigan at midfield and Mickey Harte in attack, emerged winners. Twenty one years later, in 1993, Meath reversed that result with a team that included Darren Fay, Trevor Giles and Ollie Murphy, all three of whom went on become household names in the Royal County.
