Dogged Vincent’s see off Newmarket

The incessant rain which fell this week didn’t affect a superb sod at Mallow’s pristine new grounds and neither Vincent’s nor Newmarket disappointed, serving up a gripping contest packed with plenty incident, two superb goals and an absorbing finale.

Vincent’s displayed their defensive resilience in the dying moments, denying Newmarket an equaliser having gone one ahead in the 50th minute. The city side brought 13 men behind the ball, depriving Newmarket space and, when the Duhallow men did manage to conjure up half-openings, their shooting let them down, reflected in three successive wides in the three minutes of injury time referee Dave Farrell allowed.
