The Monaghan manager waited eight days before calling his players together again after their defeat to Fermanagh in Enniskillen and, when all 28 turned up, ‘Banty’ knew they still had something to say about this year’s championship.

“We came here very relaxed today, full of enthusiasm. I was so confident. We didn’t spend two minutes in a team meeting the other night. I told them I trusted them, I was confident we would perform, put it up to Derry and win the match.”
