Harrington calls on fans to arrive early

DUBLIN’s bid for a fourth consecutive Leinster SFC title could be damaged by tardy supporters according to County Board Chairman Gerry Harrington.

The official admits that delayed starts due to a late surge of Dublin fans — most recently a 20 minute wait for the semi-final against Westmeath — have a negative impact on Paul Caffrey’s side whose pre match routine is calculated by the minute.

He has pleaded with Dublin fans to arrive early for Sunday’s provincial decider against Wexford.

Said Harrington: “There is nothing more annoying than an official coming to the Dublin dressing-room to tell us the game has been delayed.

“It totally turns off the players.

“They are keyed up and ready to go and burst out at 3.50pm and then word comes that the fans aren’t in, the game has been delayed and the players have to sit back down and try to get themselves ready again.

“I’m asking, no I’m pleading with Dublin fans that if they want to play their part in us retaining the Leinster title then be in Croke Park in plenty of time.

“There is a good minor final between Meath and Offaly on before hand. They should come in watch the second half of that match and then enjoy the senior game.”
