Offaly march into final
Playing with the breeze, Offaly raced into a 0-5 to 0-0 lead by the end of the opening quarter. After Patrick Rigney pointed a free within 30 seconds of the start they went on to control the opening exchanges, adding further points through Anton Sullivan, Brian O’Connor (2), one free, one 45, and Graham Guilfoyle, as they controlled midfield.
Offaly’s lead could have been greater as Keith Lawlor pulled a great goal chance wide after seven minutes. At the opposite end Wexford were making little impact, with their only score of the opening half arriving after seventeen minutes, a Shane Bradley point, leaving the midlanders leading 0-5 to 0-1 at the interval, despite failing to score in the second quarter and kicking nine first half wides.
