O’Neill points way for Wicklow

WICKLOW easily beat Roscommon in a one-sided Christy Ring Cup match at Athleague on Saturday.

Midfielder Jonathan O’Neill scored 1-11 as the Garden County remain in contention to qualify for the knock-out stages.

However, Roscommon — who won the Nicky Rackard Cup last year — now face a relegation battle.

Wicklow controlled the match throughout and raced into a 1-6 to 0-0 lead after the first quarter, the goal coming from Timmy Collins in the eighth minute following a pass from Eamonn Kearns.

Eamonn Furlong scored the visitors’ second goal after 45 minutes before O’Neill rounded off a brilliant personal performance with his team’s third goal three minutes later.
