Dineen hits hat-trick in facile DLS win
Jeremiah Kelleher began the goal avalanche after four minutes and while St John the Baptist, Hospital Herbertstown, pulled that back with a like score by Danny Frewen two minutes later, the Limerick school didn’t have the football know-how to trouble DLS. The Saints stayed in touch in the opening half through sheer grit and determination, epitomised by the excellence of David Murphy at wing back, and it took an excellent save by DLS ‘keeper Paul O’Sullivan to deny Frewen a second goal in the 10th minute which might have made a match of it.
However from there to the break, it was all DLS. Superbly led by centre back Stephen Down, and centre forward Tony Dineen, they carved open the St John’s defence time and time again and Colm Ryan rounded off a near perfect passing movement with a second goal which left DLS 2-6 to 1-1 in front at the short whistle.
