Sigerson Cup hits another snag
The third-level football competition was controversially stalled by a number of appeals which forced the postponement of last month’s decider at IT Carlow.
The re-scheduled semi-final between GMIT and Garda College due to be played on Tuesday night under lights in Kiltoom, Roscommon, has been postponed as the Connacht U21 football championship final between Mayo and Roscommon is set for the following night at the same venue.
There are four Mayo players on the GMIT side and with the All-Ireland U21 semi-finals fixed for April 19, the provincial decider takes precedence over the colleges game.
GMIT official Damien Curley admitted: “the game will probably be re-fixed for midweek the following week.
“But getting a suitable day for the final is going to be very difficult now.
“I understand that the colleges exams in Ulster begin on April 14 and with UUJ in the final, they won’t want interference from football.”
