DRA set to rule on Sigerson Cup controversy

THE Disputes Resolution Authority (DRA) meet next Friday to hear the objection lodged by Carlow IT questioning the legality of the Garda College team which defeated them in the Sigerson Cup.

Comhairle Árd Oideachais chairman John Devanney is confident a speedy resolution can be found to the saga which has stalled the competition.

“Should the DRA uphold Carlow’s objection, they will play Cork IT in the quarter-final, on Tuesday at CIT Grounds as they have home advantage. If Carlow IT fail with their objection, we would then try and play the Garda College/DMIT semi-final on the Tuesday at a venue to be arranged.

“Because of the provincial U-21 championships, it would only be possible to play one game a week, but hopefully we can complete the Sigerson in two weeks.”

And he admitted that lessons will be learned from the controversy.

“It’s a pity the way things have panned out, and certainly our rules need to be looked at again in light of what has happened.”
