CORK hurling manager Gerald McCarthy is happy that the long-running strike is over in the county.

As he prepares his team for their first NHL outing of the year this Sunday against Dublin in Parnell Park he says that most observers were unaware of the pressure the players were under during the dispute.

“We’re all relieved,” he says. “At one stage it looked as if there was a strong possibility that we mightn’t be playing football and hurling at all this summer, but thankfully sanity prevailed. Now we’re back I think everyone is glad that it’s over.
