All-Ireland club championship semi-final clashes arranged

THE fixture list for the AIB All-Ireland club championships has been finalised, with the senior hurling and football semi-finals taking place on February 24.

The football semi-final between Ballina Stephenites and Nemo Rangers will take place in Ennis with a 2pm throw-in while the second semi-final featuring St Vincent’s and the winners of the quarter-final tie between Crossmaglen Rangers/Tír Chonaill Gaels will be played in Páirc Tailteann, Navan, also at 2pm.

Crossmaglen and Tír Chonaill Gaels will meet in Ruislip on January 27 at 1.30pm.

The hurling semi-finals will also be played on February 24. Galway and Connacht champions Portumna face Loughmore-Castleiney in the Gaelic Grounds, Limerick at 2pm, while the second semi-final between Dunloy Cúchullains and Birr has been fixed for Clones, with a 2pm start.

Meanwhile, Limerick manager Mickey Ned O’Sullivan has handed senior inter-county debuts to three players for next Sunday’s McGrath Cup quarter-final clash with IT Tralee.

Stephen Walsh, Dermot Phelan and Tom Collins are in the starting line-up for the Feenagh showdown.

Walsh, from the Fr Casey’s club, plays at right corner back, while clubmate Tom Collins and St Patrick’s clubman Dermot Phelan are both named in the half-forward line.

Stephen Lavin and Pádraig Browne are reportedly being tracked by county hurling manager Richie Bennis. However, for now at least, they are fully committed to O’Sullivan’s squad.

Both are named in the team with Lavin set to line out at centre-back with Browne at right half-forward.

New recruit Jim O’Donovan, who has linked up with the panel after two years with Lansdowne rugby club, is unavailable because of a knee injury.

Captain Johnny Murphy will lead the team from left corner forward.

LIMERICK (SF v IT Tralee): S Kiely; S Walsh, J McCarthy, S Gallagher; A Lane, S Lavin, P Ranaghan; J Galvin, G Noonan; P Browne, D Phelan, T Collins; G Collins, S Buckley, J Murphy (c).
