THERE was a mass clearout of the top table at the annual Limerick GAA convention, held yesterday at Woodfield House Hotel in Adare, but it was a bloodless affair.

There was no coup; in most cases it was simply a case of time’s up, as the five-year rule limiting the term of individual officers took its toll, all but two officers changing. Gone are chairman Denis Holmes (three-year term expired) and long-serving county secretary Jimmy Hartigan, who also had to vacate his position as Munster Council delegate (21 years in various positions). Into their places came Liam Lenihan (chairman) and Mike O’Riordan (secretary).

It was an orderly meeting with no serious argument or controversy of any description.
