Caffrey keeping eye on resurgent Royals

DUBLIN may have been forgiven for thinking they had seen the last of Meath for the year after their Leinster quarter-final replay win over the Royals in June.

But Paul Caffrey isn’t surprised to see Colm Coyle’s side competing in the All-Ireland semi-final against Cork on Sunday.

Said Caffrey: “On their two performances against us, they almost matched us on both days. At the end of it, it came down to a couple of tight calls and close scores.”

Meath subsequently defeated Down, Fermanagh and Galway before they accounted for Tyrone in the quarter-finals.

Continued the Dublin manager: “Meath were always capable of going through the back door and, from the moment the final whistle went against us, they were determined to give the qualifiers a lash.

“They’re a quality team and they’re getting their rewards — they are in an All-Ireland semi-final and one step away from a final.”
