Kelly, who missed last weekend’s one-point qualifier victory over Cork due to a groin injury, said this week that he was fit to play on Sunday.
However, boss Michael ‘Babs’ Keating has not included the Allstar attacker in his line up for the weekend.
The Premier County have made two changes from the side that defeated Cork; John Carroll and Darragh Egan return to the forward line at the expense of Francis Devanney and Micheál Webster.
Carroll his named on the right flank of attack with Egan taking over the full forward berth.
Paul Curran (broken jaw) and Diarmuid Fitzgerald (groin) are ruled out due to injury.
Meanwhile, Paidí Ó Sé has not ruled out a return to inter-county management after he severed his connections with the Clare football team after seven months in the job.
The Ventry publican ended speculation about a future involvement yesterday when he confirmed he would not be continuing with the Banner.
He explained that because of the turn-over of players from the 2006 season it would require someone with a better knowledge of the club scene to develop the team.
At the pre-Christmas press conference in Ennis when he announced that he had agreed to take over Clare, he remarked that he had more or less made the decision ‘on impulse.’
“I did not make any commitment that I was staying up there for two years or one year, or anything like that,’’ he commented. “I said I would take it on and I’d see how things’d go.’’
Ó Sé said he was unaware at the time he did take over that ‘so many’ players were either ‘standing down’ or retiring. That situation manifested itself in the championship when the team which played Waterford — and lost — included nine new players. Subsequently, they defeated Tipperary in the McGrath Cup but lost to Antrim last weekend in the semi-final.
After having taken over the Kerry senior team in the winter of 1995 (via the U-21 side), Ó Sé has been involved in management almost continuously since then.
But, at this stage he still feels that he could have something to offer in the future. “I’m not saying I won’t get involved again in some shape or form,’’ he commented.
