Quill’s late point earns second chance for O’Rahilly’s

AN injury-time point from Declan Quill secured a deserved draw for Kerins O’Rahilly’s in this Kerry SFC quarter-final at Austin Stack Park last night.

Two brilliant goals from Kieran Foley and Sean O’Sullivan seemed to have secured victory for 14-man Mid Kerry before Quill kept his nerve to set up a replay date.

David Moran opened O’Rahilly’s account after six minutes and another 13 elapsed before Darran O’Sullivan hit Mid Kerry’s equaliser. O’Rahilly’s were leading 0-4 to 0-1 when a melee broke out and referee Pat Sheehy issued a red card to the Mid Kerry corner back Kevin O’Brien.

At the break O’Rahilly’s led 0-5 to 0-1, Tommy Walsh opening their second-half account, but 14-man Mid Kerry stepped up a gear to trail by just three points.

A Darren O’Sullivan free was fielded by Kieran Foley, who turned sharply and placed the ball in the right corner for Mid Kerry’s first goal. Sean O’Sullivan added a second great goal with three minutes left.

Mid Kerry almost held on for victory but for the injury-time point from Quill.
