Limerick will finish the job — eventually

IT WAS SUPPOSED to be the easiest of passages to the Munster final for either Limerick or Tipperary; both on the easy side of the draw, avoiding both Cork and Waterford, both went straight into the semi-final.

Win one game, and you’re in the Munster final. Ah, if only...

Nearly three hours later, still no result. Could it match the great Dublin/Meath saga of 1991, go to a fourth meeting, back to Semple Stadium? Truth be told, it should have ended the first day in Limerick, when the home side were reduced to 14 men from the 24th minute, their captain Damien Reale sent off after receiving a second yellow card. On a boiling hot day, the odds were immediately stacked against Limerick but to their great credit, they regrouped, fought like tigers, every man running himself to a standstill in a Herculean team effort.
