Cummins a doubt for Tipp’s clash with Limerick

TIPPERARY’S All-star goalkeeper Brendan Cummins who was sensationally dropped for the Munster SHC semi-final replay against Limerick is a doubt for Sunday’s third installment after injuring his hamstring playing football on Sunday night.

Cummins was forced off after ten minutes of Ardfinnan’s Tipp SFC clash with Aherlow with a hamstring injury.

Premier GAA chiefs believe that his withdrawal was purely precautionary but the injury will be assessed over the next 48 hours.

Keating made six changes from the original fixture, but the most surprising was the inclusion of last year’s U21 keeper Gerry Kennedy at Cummins’ expense.

“We’re lucky to have two very good goalkeepers in the county at the moment, very good. It’s no disrespect to Brendan Cummins having given 12 hard years of outstanding service to Tipperary but we just felt that Gerry was in there battling for a place and we gave him a chance and Tipperary will have a goalkeeper to take over from Brendan for many years to come.”
