Business as usual for Kenny

THEY’RE everybody’s darlings this year, Waterford, everyone’s favourite team outside of their own, the one most GAA fans – hurling and football – would love to see finally capture this year’s All-Ireland senior hurling title.
Business as usual for Kenny

Naturally, Cork midfielder Tom Kenny doesn’t agree. There’s massive mutual respect between the two counties, captured in a picture from the recent National League semi-final win by Waterford showing Dan Shanahan and Diarmuid O’Sullivan on their haunches, exchanging exhausted pleasantries at the end of yet another magnificent contest (won by Waterford, who of course beat Kilkenny in the final).

“I think there’s a balance there between friendly rivalry and cutthroat,” says Tom; “I think if Dan is bearing down on goal and Diarmuid had to do what he had to do, he’d do it, but I think that picture typified two great characters. Dan is always perky on the pitch with his comments, Sully likewise, he can give as good as he gets. They’re two great characters, that picture typified the rivalry and the games that have gone before.”
