Super-subs seal win for Dromina
In a game that never scaled the heights, it was Kilbrittain ahead with just three minutes left, 1-10 to 2-6, but four unanswered points, the first from midfielder James O’Shaughnessy, the final three by Healy (two) and Aherne, saw Dromina through.
Kilbrittain led at the break by a single point, 1-5 to 1-4, thanks mainly to the accuracy of long-time shooting star, full-forward Dan O’Connell.
The Kilbrittain goal came inside the first minute, when a mishit clearance by Dromina keeper Ger Buckley landed in the hands of wing-forward Alan Hayes, who duly dispatched from about 35 yards to the empty Dromina net.
Dromina opened their account in the third minute, a long-range free from centre-back Liam Hayes.
Two points from Dan O’Connell put Kilbrittain ahead 1-2 to 0-1, 15th minute; two minutes later we had the first Dromina goal. A long Liam Hayes free was broken down on the edge of the square; the Kilbrittain defence were slow to clear and Dromina centre-forward Pat Hayes flicked the breaking ball to the net. Two points, one each from Andrew O’Shaughnessy and the hard-working Paul Gould, had Dromina ahead in the 21st minute, but a brace from O’Connell and Maurice Sexton’s point gave the West Cork side a two-point lead at the break.
It was ten minutes before the first score of the second half, a pointed free from full-forward Andrew O’Shaughnessy. Three minutes later we had a goal by Pat Hayes; 2-5 to 1-5, 43rd minute.
Points from James Deasy, O’Connell and Maurice Sexton had Kilbrittain level again by the 48th minute, before those late scores from Dromina.
