London anger over postponement

LONDON GAA chiefs believe their NFL 2A game against Leitrim should have been played at Ruislip on Sunday.

London anger over postponement

The game was postponed hours before throw in by referee Brian O’Shea, who deemed that the pitch was unplayable after some heavy overnight rain.

And Leitrim weren’t happy.

Indeed players, management and officials from the Connacht side were furious at the lateness of the decision and by the lack of an alternative venue.

However, London secretary Tommy Harrell feels the fixture could have been completed.

The matter was discussed at a County Board meeting on Monday night as was their response to Croke Park.

“We genuinely thought that the pitch was playable but the referee felt otherwise.

“We are in the process of formulating our response and will be writing to Croke Park this week explaining our point of view.”

Mr Harrell would not comment if London would accede to a request by Leitrim to play the refixture in

Ireland.

“At our Board meeting on Monday night we said that we were not going into a trial by media.

“We will send our letter to Croke Park and we will abide by their decision thereafter.”
