Mixed fortunes for Irish handballers in the US

The biggest disappointment was the defeat of reigning 19 and Under champion Robert McCarthy from Mullingar. McCarthy had been suffering from stomach problems prior to the event, but played brilliantly to reach the final but was denied by top US player Louis Moreno in two games, 21-7, 21-19.

Diarmuid Nash from Clare lost out at the semi-final stage in the 17 and Under singles while Keith Kavanagh from Wicklow was also beaten in the 13 and Under final.
