Allstar awards dominated by Rebels

CORK duo, Gemma O’Connor and Jennifer O’Leary, collected third consecutive camogie All-Star awards as the All-Ireland champions dominated the 2006 selection.

The Rebels, who received 11 nominations have six representatives on the team announced at the Citywest Hotel, Dublin on Saturday.

Defenders Rena Buckley, Mary O’Connor and Anna Geary, midfielder, Gemma O’Connor and attackers Briege Corkery and Jennifer O’Leary were all honoured.

Defeated All-Ireland finalists Tipperary have won four All-Stars — Jovita Delaney retained the goalkeeping spot while Suzanna Kelly, Philly Fogarty and Joanne Ryan were also selected.

Galway’s Regina Glynn and Veronica Curtain; Wexford’s Kate Kelly, Dublin’s Louise O’Hara and Kilkenny’s Imelda Kennedy complete the side.

Dublin boss, Peter Lucey, was named as the manager of the year.

The Young Player of the Year went to Marie Dargan from Kilkenny. She helped Kilkenny to both U16 and U18 All-Ireland titles and was on the senior side defeated by Tipperary in the All-Ireland semi-final.
