WOLFE TONES, who won the Munster club hurling title at the first time of asking back in 1996, ended Bruree’s adventure in a dull first round clash at Cusack Park, Ennis, yesterday to set up what should be a more exciting assignment against Erin’s Own in Cork in two weeks time.

However, the Clare champions will have to up their game if they hope to overcome the Cork champions.

Tones, however, are a far better side than we saw yesterday in a game that was played in near perfect conditions after it was switched from Shannon to Ennis. They were going into a third successive weekend of fiercely competitive hurling. Two weeks earlier they beat Newmarket-on-Fergus for their second ever senior hurling title and, just a week ago, they won the Clare Champion Cup for the very first time.
