Croker pitch problems? It’s footwear, says McKenna

CROKE PARK stadium director Peter McKenna has defended the much-criticised pitch at GAA headquarters by claiming that the real problem lies instead with the players’ footwear.

Players have a bewildering range of boots from which to choose these days: screw-ins, moulded and blades.

Yet, despite best efforts, many players have found it consistently difficult to keep their feet on a Croke Park surface, which has been compared to an ice rink on more than one occasion.
