Just four weeks ago he saw his team go under to Cork in the provincial decider, in a game in which Donal Óg Cusack’s goalkeeping and a below-par performance from Eoin Kelly heavily influenced the outcome.

On Sunday in they renew their rivalry with Waterford in the last of the four All-Ireland quarter-finals. The dust had hardly settled after the provincial decider when Keating and the management were enveloped in controversy which saw Ger O’Grady banished from the panel and the captaincy given over to Lar Corbett.
