GAA resources will be stretched in an attempt to counteract the effect of television coverage of rugby, soccer and golf on young people, Munster Council chairman Sean Fogarty believes.

Writing in the match programme for yesterday’s game in Páirc Uí Chaoimh, he said that the GAA must regard other sports ‘as a challenge rather than a threat.’

“The surest way of meeting a challenge is to redouble our own efforts.“This can only be achieved with more volunteers. “Unfortunately, volunteerism seems to be on the wane,’’ he said.
