WICKLOW boss Hugh Kenny became the first managerial casualty of the All-Ireland football championship. The Garden County manager resigned after yesterday’s defeat to Carlow in Wexford Park.

Said Kenny: “Perhaps now is the time for Wicklow to consider a high-profile manager. I have introduced up to 50 players to the inter-county scene over the last three years. They know the scene, know the training methods, are well looked after.

“I’ve no excuses to offer for Carlow were far the better team. But it was a major disappointment for me to see it end this way.”
