For long stages the initiative was held by Lismore — they held an eight point interval lead well into the second half — but Tallow refused to panic and chipped away to pull level and were desperately unlucky to not win in the final seconds.
Lismore had a super start with Dan Shanahan pointing inside 12 seconds, and when the outstanding William Cunningham and the unerring Dave Bennett also rifled over points, Tallow looked in trouble.
Things grew worse for Tallow when Bennett’s speculative delivery from 60 metres ended in the net in the 10th minute and his second goal from a 20-metre free two minutes before the break had Lismore 2-8 to 0-6 ahead at the interval.
That eight point margin still separated the sides 10 minutes into the second half, but the remainder of the game was essentially one-way Tallow traffic.
Point by point they closed the gap until finally they were level with a goal in the 56th minute, clinically finished by Brian Henley after superb approach work by the tireless William Murphy.
Both sides had match-winning chances in the tension-charged finale, but in the end neither could quibble with the result.
