Cork bank on same line-up for Clare clash

NOT unexpectedly, the Cork senior hurling selectors have stuck with the same 15 which defeated Waterford in the quarter-final for Sunday’s All-Ireland SHC semi-final against Clare in Croke Park.

It is the fourth time the selectors have named the same team. On this occasion, however, there is one positional switch. Kieran Murphy and Ben O’Connor swap places, with Murphy now in the half forward line and the Newtownshandrum man at right corner forward.

Clare are due to announce their team tomorrow night but manager Anthony Daly has no injury problems. The only question really facing the Clare manager is who to select in the troublesome right corner forward berth.

Barry Nugent was the first choice in the position for the quarter-final victory over Wexford but he was replaced shortly after half-time by Declan O’Rourke. However, Andrew Quinn, Daithi O’Connell and David Forde all remain in the running for first team inclusion.

The Dublin senior football selectors have given a vote of confidence to the team which defeated Laois in the Leinster final for Saturday’s All-Ireland quarter final against Tyrone.

Tyrone will await the outcome of Ryan McMenamin’s appeal, which is due to be heard tonight at Croke Park, before announcing their team.

McMenamin received a four weeks suspension after the Ulster final replay game with Armagh, although he was not red-carded in that game.

The appeals of Armagh’s Paul McGrane and Ciaran McKeever, who were also suspended for a month as a result of incidents in the same game, will also be heard tonight.

The Cork minor hurling selectors have made one change in personnel and a couple of positional switches from the team which defeated Limerick in the Munster final for Saturday’s All-Ireland semi-final against champions Galway in Portlaoise (6 pm).

Stephen Moylan, Douglas, comes in for the injured Alan Brady. The positional switches sees Peter O’Brien move from centre-forward to partner Peter O’Driscoll at midfield. Eoin Murphy goes from full-forward to centre forward, with Cathal Naughton moving from left half forward to full forward.

John Halbert switches from left corner to left half back with Moylan coming in at top of the left.
