THE deportation of two Irishmen after a row in a pub has created deep divisions in the Irish GAA community in Melbourne.

The fallout threatens to overshadow the visit of GAA president Sean Kelly and the Irish team for the International Rules series against Australia in two weeks time.

It was sparked by the verbal abuse of a young woman after a disputed hurling final between Sinn Féin and Melbourne Shamrocks on August 28, which led to her making an unsigned statement to the Australian police about the incident.
