After beating Cork in the semi-final, confidence was high in the Banner county and, with Fiona Lafferty in sensational form at full-forward, Limerick were under severe strain early on. Scores against the wind were at a premium while their defence was having trouble coping with the Clare attack. Goals arrived in the 18th and 31st minutes from Danielle Sheedy and Lafferty, while the green and white replies came mainly from placed balls.
The Banner County were in the driving seat, 2-4 to 0-3, at the interval.
Limerick clawed their way back into the game, but a second goal from Sheedy left them with a mountain to climb entering the closing quarter.
Substitute Aisling McAuliffe threw Limerick a lifeline with a goal, but Clare, with inspirational play from captain Amy McInerney and Jennifer Moloney, were unyielding. Green flags were swapped by Maire Rafferty and Niamh Mulcahy, but there was no denying Clare their day in the sun. They now look forward to a meeting with the Connacht champions in the All-Ireland semi-final on July 18.
