Play off abandoned after leg break
Until then the game had been played in an exemplary manner without untoward incidents. However, the challenge that left Dungarvan wing back Jason Shaw with a fractured leg convinced referee Pat Walsh to prematurely end the tie, “in the interests of safety”.
The game was held up for almost half an hour for the arrival of an ambulance from Dungarvan while personnel from both clubs attended to Shaw. He was then removed to Waterford Regional Hospital where he underwent surgery.
It was an unfortunate ending to a game that had been keenly waged up to the Shaw incident.
Kilmacthomas corner back Jonathan Hughes was red carded following the incident.
