GAA hits back at disciplinary critics

MUNSTER Council Chairman Sean Fogarty has responded to recent criticism of the GAA, following what he described as “a miniscule number of isolated disciplinary indiscretions”.

While emphasising that breaches of the rules “in any shape or form” can never be condoned, he feels a lot of the criticism was unjustified and did not take account of the GAA’s role in promoting sport in Ireland.

“I wonder do the individuals who rush to criticise ever ask themselves what type of society the country would have only for the never-ending work of sports organisations like the GAA? I have no doubt but that if the truth was told, the GAA has contributed more than any other strand of society to keeping our young people on the straight and narrow,” he said.
