UL victory in O'Connor cup

UL defeated NUI Maynooth 4-9 to 2-8 in the final in Galway yesterday.

Playing into the wind in the first half, the winners trailed by 2-2 to 1-1 at the break but within three minutes of the restart, they were level with a goal coming from Patricia Dennehy.

For the remainder of the contest UL were fully in control lead in attack by county stars Aileen O’Loughlin, Dennehy, Valerie Mulcahy and Galway’s Gillian Joyce while Angela Walsh was superb in defence.

When Síle Byrnes and O’Loughlin scored late goals the title was sealed.
