THE decision by the footballers and hurlers of Tipperary and Kerry, respectively, to withdraw from the championships may be a wake-up call for the Association according to GAA Director-General Liam Mulvihill.

“It is something we have to look at. The way the inter-county scene is going, it poses the question if it is leaving enough time for the clubs and the divisional boards to run off their games. This raises questions about the demands placed on players,” he said.

Mulvihill was unsure what punishment would be meted out to both counties for refusing to fulfil their fixtures, but said Central Council was likely to be involved at some level.
