NEW Connacht Council chairman Tommy Moran has pledged to boycott underage GAA functions where alcohol will be served.

Speaking at last night's annual convention in Carrick-on-Shannon, he appealed to officials to take a similar stance in their own counties. "It may be only a small gesture, but we have to start somewhere,'' he said.

Moran, the former Leitrim secretary and a prominent referee in the 1980s, said there now appeared to be a sudden realisation of the harm caused by the abuse of alcoholic drink.
