I’ll be back, vows Ryan as he prepares for knee operation
Ryan sustained the injury while playing with his club St Anne’s in the county SHC last month. He met with Dr Pat O’Neill this week and learned that the injury will require an operation.
“Having had a similar injury to my right knee I always feared the worst. It’s too early to say how long I’ll be out of the game but I hope to have surgery by the end of the month. My one aim is to try and get back in time for next year’s provincial championship.”
Meanwhile, it will be revealed tonight if Brian Cody and his selectors will start DJ Carey in the All Ireland SHC semi-final against Tipperary on Sunday. The team will be announced after training this evening.
Two definite starters will be Brian McEvoy and Henry Shefflin. McEvoy has fully recovered from a broken finger while Shefflin continues to receive treatment for a leg strain.
The Kilkenny minor team shows one change from the side that defeated Wexford in the Leinster final. Stephen Cadigan comes in at right half back for the injured Shane Dowling.
There are also a number of position changes. Ciaran Hoyne, younger brother of seniors Michael and John, moves from right half back into the centre with PJ Delaney moving out to partner Shane Maher at midfield.
Michael Rice has been switched from midfield to centre forward. The team is notable for the inclusion of sons of former senior stars, David Prendergast at right corner back, son of Paddy, and Richie Power at right half forward, son of Richie Snr.
