Cork five missing for Limerick clash
Sherlock has been ruled out with a groin injury. Gardiner and the Murphys and Gardiner are involved in university competition and Corcoran is rested.
John Browne takes over the right corner-back slot from his Blackrock colleague Sherlock, while Pat Mulcahy replaces Brian Murphy in the other corner.
Graham Callinan steps into Gardiner’s right half-back position, while Jonathon O’Callaghan and Neil Ronan are selected in the right corner- and full-forward positions held down by Kieran Murphy and Brian Corcoran on All-Ireland day.
Meanwhile, Allstar Ken McGrath is set to return to midfield duty as Waterford get their league campaign underway on Sunday against Kilkenny.
The Mount Sion player has been primed for midfield this term after spells at half-back and half-forward.
McGrath made the centre-back position his own last season and crowned the year with an Allstar as the Decies reached the All-Ireland semi-finals.
However, Justin McCarthy is intent on shuffling his pack as he looks to go one better than last year’s league final and championship defeats.
That could mean taking McGrath out of defence and returning him to midfield, with wing-back James Murray potentially moving to centre-back.
McCarthy won’t name his team to face Kilkenny until tomorrow night but it seems likely that Fergal Hartley will be named at full-back.
It’s in the last line of defence where the biggest change of all could be though with McCarthy overlooking both Stephen Brenner and Ian O’Regan in goals for newcomer Clinton Hennessy.
The Ardmore stopper has performed impressively in challenges against the likes of Wexford and Limerick and should start against the Cats.
Tipperary have five newcomers in the starting line up for Sunday’s NHL tie against Down in Thurles. Goalkeeper Damien Young of Drom-Inch is named in place of the rested Brendan Cummins while Ken Hogan has given starts to midfielder Tadhg Slevin, (Borrisokane), Donal Shelly, (Ballingarry), along with Loughmore duo Michael Webster and Evan Sweeney.
Diarmuid Fitzgerald and Eddie Enright are unavailable through injury, while John Carroll is not included in the squad.
