Kingdom football is celebrated at hospital

PATIENTS and visitors to Kerry General Hospital, Tralee, will now have a colourful and constant reminder of the glories of Kerry football.

The county GAA board is presenting jerseys from each of the 71 Kerry clubs, which are to be framed and displayed on the corridors.

Hospital general manager Margie Lynch yesterday said it was a wonderful gesture that would be appreciated by everyone associated with the hospital.

“The GAA plays a significant and vital role in Kerry life and the jerseys are something that patients, visitors and staff alike can enjoy regardless of their club affiliation,” she added. “I’m sure the jerseys will spark much friendly banter and healthy debate.”

GAA president Seán Kelly attended a function to mark the presentation of the first set of six jerseys from clubs in Ardfert, Beaufort, Kerins O’Rahillys, Keel, Dingle and the official Kerry county jersey.

Ms Lynch thanked the county board for the initiative, in particular, Sean Walsh, chairman; Eamon O’Sullivan, secretary, and Willie O’Connor, PRO.

“I believe this gift from the GAA will help give Kerry people a sense of ownership of the hospital, as well as bringing colour to the corridors,” she said.
