THE BONFIRES were blazing again in Newtown on Sunday night, the bunting-bedecked village rocking into the small hours as all 800 souls in the parish appeared to congregate around Paddy Ryan’s pub to celebrate winning the Munster hurling club title.

For the fans, the carnival atmosphere generated by the latest success will continue through the week; for the players, after last night's blast all celebrations are on hold.

Captain, John McCarthy was at the heart of the festivities, but the atmosphere was all he was supping on.
