Armagh make three changes for Meath clash

JOE KERNAN has made three changes in the Armagh line-out to face Meath in Sunday’s Allianz League clash in Navan.

With Andy Mallon ruled out, manager Kernan has drafted the experienced Francie Bellew into defence after his recovery from flu.

Paddy McKeever and Peadar Toal come into the attack in place of Paul Keenan and Liam O’Hare. Kieran McGeeney returns to centre-back, Gareth Swift goes to midfield and Charlie Verno to right half-forward.

Unsurprisingly, there is no change to the Kildare team for Sunday’s home game against Down, team boss John Crofton giving a vote of confidence to the side that shocked Armagh.

Meath boss Eamonn Barry has hinted Trevor Giles and Darren Fay’s inter-county careers may be over. Barry had adopted a ‘wait and see’ approach but says he is convinced at this stage there is no desire among the pair to make themselves available.

Galway are set to announce their team to play Laois in Tuam on Sunday today but manager Peter Ford will have team captain Padraig Joyce available. Joyce missed last weekend’s defeat by Derry because of suspension.

However, Ford will have to cope with a lengthy injury list with Joe Bergin, Barry Cullinane, Matthew Clancy and Paul Clancy still out.

Galway are not helped by the players who are tied up with club commitments, with Salthill’s Michael Donnellan, Sean Armstrong and Finian Hanley unavailable as they prepare for Sunday’s All-Ireland club semi-final showdown with Kilmacud Crokes.

However, defender Michael Comer should be back from injury.

Following their superb victory over Kerry last weekend Mayo have announced an unchanged side for their home game with Offaly on Sunday.

But Donegal, who drew with Leitrim in their opening game, have made five changes for their visit to Carlow. Paul Durcan returns in goal and there are call up papers for Thomas Donoghue and Frank McGlynn on the right flank of defence. Cathal Dunne is named at left half-forward with James Gallagher taking over at full-forward.

Antrim will be without Damien Gault and Tony Scullion for their game against Louth in Drogheda. Gault is on holidays and Scullion was injured in last Sunday’s win over Wicklow.

Clare, who got off to a winning start against Carlow, are expected to make few changes for their second-round tie with Leitrim at Carrick-on-Shannon.

Although Laois have a fully fit panel manager Mick O’Dwyer will not announce his side to play Galway at Salthill on Sunday until just before kick-off time.

The Westmeath team to play Tipperary on Saturday in Semple Stadium in Division 2B shows three changes from the side which beat Waterford on Sunday.

John Keane returns to his usual left full back spot with Gary Glennon losing out. Derek Heavin was forced to withdraw early on Sunday through injury is replaced at centre half-back by the experienced Damien Healy while Rory O’Connell starts at midfield at the expense of Niall Kilmartin.
