Abbeyside hold out
Corner forward Mark Ferncombe gave them the perfect start with a goal after two minutes, and they were well worth their 1-11 to 0-3 half time lead, with all of Mount Sion’s points coming from Christy Ryan frees.
In fact the losers managed just a solitary point from play, which was scored by Ian Hutchinson in the 58th minute, and that lack of firepower in attack was to ultimately cost them dearly.
Michael Gaffney’s goal from a free in the 52nd minute threw them a lifeline and also set up a rousing finish.
However, Abbeyside were not to be denied their historic back to back record.
