Three-goal Horeswood blitz beats Bunclody
Horeswood got off to a blistering start with full-forward Liam Bowe finding the net twice in the opening minutes and when David Shannon added a third they looked on the way to a comfortable victory.
However, the Halfway House/Bunclody side were boosted by an eighteenth minute goal from a Joe Kavanagh penalty but they still trailed 4-2 to 1-3 at the interval.
Very little separated the sides through the second half as they went on to exchange five points apiece but it was that early three goal salvo which sent Horeswood through to the quarter-finals.
Meanwhile, Glynn-Barntown cruised through to the last eight as a result of this convincing nine-point victory (2-17 to 2-8) over Naomh Eanna at Enniscorthy.
It was the scoring exploits of the accurate Derek Leonard which created such a huge gulf between the sides. Leonard finished the game with a personal tally of 1-9, really turning on the style in the second 30 minutes.
A goal midway through the first half helped the eventual winners to a 1-11 to 2-4 interval lead, the Naomh Eanna goals arriving courtesy of Noel Kennedy and Barry Kinsella.
With the Glynn-Barntown dominance becoming apparent as the second half progressed, there was never any doubting the eventual result with a Derek Leonard goal killing off any hopes of a possible Naomh Eanna recovery.
Referee: N. Kehoe (Cloughbawn).
