Cork hurlers snub County Board ceremony

ONLY three members of the Cork senior hurling panel turned up at last weekend’s County Board celebratory dinner at Moran’s, Silver Springs Hotel.

Cork hurlers snub County Board ceremony

The Board were honouring the Cork camogie team’s All-Ireland success, the Cork senior footballers’ Munster final triumph and the hurlers’ feat in finishing runners-up in the National League. Twenty eight of the football panel turned up, but the only hurlers to put in an appearance were John Gardiner and Mark Prendergast of Na Piarsaigh and Kieran Murphy of Erin’s Own.

Some were taking the snub as a signal of the hurlers’ unhappiness at the way talks between themselves and the board are going but chairman Jim Cronin assured delegates at last week’s meeting that the talks were “harmonious and without aggro”.
