All change on managers’ merry-go-round as pretenders bid to dethrone Newtown

Tomás Mulcahy, who captained Cork to the All-Ireland in 1990 succeeds Paddy Barry as manager of Glen Rovers.

Former Limerick U21 three-in-a-row manager David Keane replaces Tom Cashman, who will remain a selector, at Blackrock, while former senior player John Barry takes over from former dual star Tadgh Murphy at Sarsfields.

Jimmy Barry-Murphy continues at St Finbarr’s while Teddy McCarthy has been appointed manager of Killeagh in succession to Mark Landers, who was player/manager last season.

Sterling defender for several seasons and sub goalkeeper for the past two years Sean Motherway will manage championship runners-up Cloyne, with John Molloy replacing Timmy Murphy at Castlelyons.

Bernie O’Connor remains at reigning champions Newtownshandrum and Paul O’Connor remains at Na Piarsaigh.

Another former dual star Denis Walsh will again manage St. Catherine’s, Jack Russell remains at the Bride Rovers helm, while John Meyler, who led Ballinhassig to intermediate success last season, will oversee the Carrigdoun’s club’s first senior venture since 1978. Interestingly Meyler will also take charge of CIT.

Martin Bowen as been re-elected manager of Erin’s Own with Sean Prendergast continuing as coach. Sean O’Brien has been re-appointed manager of Midleton and Barry Egan becomes the new manager of Delanys.

UCC will play under a three-man management team consisting of Blackrock stalwart Alan Browne, Eamon Ryan and Seamus Coffee, while Douglas are still putting their management team together.

There are also managerial changes on the football front with four clubs St. Finbarr’s, Bishopstown, Aghada and Mallow all changing managers.

Kevin Scanlon takes over from Christy Ryan in Togher, former Dohenys mentor Brian Herlihy is the new manager of Bishopstown.

Conor Counihan has stepped down as boss of Aghada and is replaced by Declan Devoy, while former Nemo player Denis O’Sullivan takes over at Mallow.

Tom Dorgan stays on at Ballincollig, Michael Creedon remains at Ilen Rovers and Gerry O’Mahony will continue to lead the Dohenys.

Gene O’Driscoll remains on at O’Donovan Rossa’s and successful junior and intermediate manager Michael Paul Hicks will manage new boys Carbery Rangers.

Christy Lucey has been re-appointed manager of Naomh Aban, Enda Ronan continues in charge of St. Michael’s, Des Cullinane will manage UCC, while Michael ‘Haulie O’Neill is expected to be re-elected at the Clonakilty AGM over the weekend.
